Capital didn't leave this quarter. It moved.
The quarter's filings show money rotating toward AI-linked demand and alternatives, and away from consumer spending and legacy managers.

The asset manager split
Franklin Resources had a strong year, and the strength was specific. The company says it reported preliminary net income of $380.1 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, and preliminary net income of $1,075.3 million for the fiscal year. It generated $84.1 billion in long-term net inflows for the fiscal year, and total assets under management increased 8% year over year to $1.8 trillion. m:…0916
The inflows went to the newer parts of the business. Alternative assets under management reached $304.6 billion, with $48.7 billion in fundraising for the fiscal year. But the same filing shows the other side of the rotation: Western Asset Management experienced $11.7 billion of long-term net outflows during the fiscal year. Franklin says it expects to continue investing in strategic acquisitions to enhance capabilities, and its institutional pipeline of won-but-unfunded mandates is $22.0 billion. Money came in the door and left through a different one, and the door it came through was alternatives. m:…0916
The industrial middle cuts and re-aims
Greif, which makes industrial packaging, reported a quarter of cutting its way to profit. The company says it reported a fourth-quarter 2026 net loss of $6.5 million, narrowed from a net loss of $24.3 million in the prior-year quarter, and fiscal year 2026 net income of $261.5 million compared with $31.6 million in fiscal 2025. It achieved $105 million in cumulative run-rate cost optimisation by the end of fiscal 2026 and expanded the commitment to $150 million by the end of fiscal 2027. It announced the strategic exit of its Coated Recycled Board business, including the closure of the Sweetwater paperboard mill in Austell, Georgia, and reduced its leverage ratio to 1.2x from 1.7x. m:…6869
TechTarget shows the same re-aiming from the other side of the economy. The company says it reported third-quarter revenue of $119.2 million, a 2.5% decrease year over year, while narrowing its net loss to $18.2 million from $76.8 million a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA was $18.6 million, down from $22.6 million a year earlier, and the company updated its full-year 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance to $80 million to $85 million. Gary Nugent attributes market performance to macro volatility and AI investment. The company held $35.3 million in cash and cash equivalents as of September 30, 2026, and reported net debt of $84.8 million. m:…1711
The consumer side shrank
Under Armour's quarter was the mirror image. The company says it reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $1.2 billion, a 7% decrease, and operating income of $15 million. North America revenue declined 7% to $737 million and international revenue decreased 7% to $509 million, and gross margin decreased 30 basis points to 47.0%. The company updated its fiscal 2027 operating income outlook to a range of $99 million to $119 million, and recorded $11 million in restructuring charges in the quarter. m:…1699
Dauch Corporation reported a loss while spending on the future. Dauch says it reported third-quarter sales of $2.91 billion and a net loss of $45.3 million, primarily driven by its acquisition of Dowlais Group, and it expects synergy benefits of $70 million to $75 million in 2026. The company reported adjusted EBITDA of $358.5 million and adjusted free cash flow of $126.7 million in the quarter, and updated its full-year sales guidance to $10.8 billion to $10.875 billion. Dauch is spending through the deal while still generating cash — a different posture from a consumer name simply shrinking. m:…4714
What is still unresolved
- Whether Franklin's $84.1 billion of inflows persists if markets stay volatile, and whether Western Asset's $11.7 billion of outflows stabilises.
- Whether Greif's expanded $150 million cost optimisation commitment by the end of fiscal 2027 arrives, and whether the exit of the Coated Recycled Board business improves profitability as the company expects.
- Whether Dauch's expected $70 million to $75 million of Dowlais synergies in 2026 arrive on schedule.
