Telcos buy the AI-agent pitch while retail learns the hard way
Parloa signed partnerships with AloTech and TELUS Digital to push agentic AI through contact-center channels. Meanwhile CallMiner's research says retail, the fastest adopter of automation, reports the weakest automated customer experiences of any sector.
- Parloa has been named the Strategic AI Partner by AloTech, which the company describes as Türkiye's largest AI-powered, cloud-based contact center software provider; the partnership gives Turkish enterprises access to Parloa's AI agents through AloTech's CCaaS platform. Self-reported m:…5291
- TELUS Digital announced a partnership with Parloa to help enterprises build and manage AI agents, serving as an implementation partner; the announcement puts TELUS Digital's global delivery footprint at 83,000+ team members across 35+ countries. Self-reported m:…4507
- CallMiner's research says retail reports the weakest automated customer experiences of any sector surveyed, with only 16% of retail organizations describing those experiences as very positive; more than half have limited visibility into when and why their automated interactions fail. Self-reported m:…0240
- Talkdesk says organizations leading in customer experience automation are 4x more likely to report major CSAT and NPS gains. Self-reported m:…3289
The channel play
Parloa has been named the Strategic AI Partner by AloTech, and the partnership enables Turkish enterprises to access Parloa's AI agents via AloTech's CCaaS platform. AloTech is the largest AI-powered, cloud-based contact center software provider in Türkiye. In the announcement, Özkan Kırmacıi dismissed the usual pilot purgatory: "Put those together, and you can skip the yearlong proof-of-concepts that go nowhere." The deal caps a European push in which Parloa recently opened satellite offices in London, Madrid, Paris, and Milan. m:…5291
TELUS Digital announced a partnership with Parloa to help enterprises build and manage AI agents, and TELUS Digital will serve as an implementation partner for Parloa's AI agent platform. The announcement puts TELUS Digital's global delivery footprint at 83,000+ team members across 35+ countries. The agents in question handle customer interactions including authentication, bookings, payments, and order inquiries, and Parloa builds agents to meet compliance standards including GDPR, ISO 27001, and SOC 2. m:…4507
Our read: neither deal is really about a product demo. Parloa is buying distribution — a telco-grade CCaaS channel in Türkiye on one side, a global implementation arm on the other — because selling AI agents to enterprises turns out to require somebody else's install base. The contact center is where agent vendors go when direct pilots stall: the workflows are bounded, the compliance list (GDPR, ISO 27001, SOC 2) is already written, and the buyer already pays per seat. m:…5291 m:…4507
Retail's cautionary numbers
Retail reports the weakest automated customer experiences of any sector surveyed — that is the finding from CallMiner's own product blog. Just 16% of retail organizations describe those experiences as very positive, CallMiner's blog reports. Retailers prioritize automation based on internal cost and efficiency goals, and problem resolution and complaints have the highest rates of human handoff in the retail data. More than half of retail organizations have limited visibility into when and why their automated interactions fail. m:…0240
Talkdesk's blog offers the counterpoint, with the caveat that it is the vendor's own telling: organizations leading in customer experience automation are 4x more likely to report major CSAT and NPS gains, the company says. AI generates summaries to reduce post-interaction work for agents, and speech analytics reads tone, language, and behavioral cues to reveal customer mood in real time. The throughline in Talkdesk's telling: AI in customer service uses agentic AI, machine learning, and automation to understand and respond to customer requests faster. And Talkdesk's implementation advice is unglamorous: successful AI implementation should start with a pilot program to evaluate impact before a full rollout. m:…3289
The pattern
Our read: these two halves are one story. Telcos and CCaaS providers are buying agents as infrastructure with a compliance checklist attached; retail bought automation as cost savings and got the weakest satisfaction scores of any sector surveyed. The difference the data points to is boring and operational — pilot first, instrument the failures, optimize with customer intelligence. Retail's 16% and the more-than-half who cannot see their own automated failures are the same story told twice. Kırmacıi's yearlong-proof-of-concept line is aimed directly at this fatigue: the enterprise buyer has seen the demo, run the pilot, and gotten nothing deployed. The channel partners are the answer to a go-to-market problem, not a technology one. m:…0240 m:…3289 m:…5291
What is still unresolved
- Whether the Parloa–AloTech and Parloa–TELUS Digital deployments produce the CSAT/NPS gains Talkdesk cites — no outcome data has been reported yet.
- The sample size and methodology behind CallMiner's retail survey figures (16%, more than half) — the blog post figures are company-reported.
- Pricing and contract terms for either partnership were not stated in the announcements.
