Legal AI's integration race: Legora and EvenUp agree the best model doesn't win

Legora launches a 30+ integration ecosystem and a Sirion partnership; EvenUp bets the opposite direction — inside Word.

Key facts
  • Legora launched an integration ecosystem with 30+ integrations across nine categories of legal technology — document management, eDiscovery, ethical walls, time and billing, contracting and more. Self-reported m:…6847
  • Legora says it serves 130,000+ legal professionals, and that connected platforms remain the system of record for permissions. Self-reported m:…6847
  • Legora and Sirion announced a strategic partnership connecting Legora's agentic platform with Sirion's contract lifecycle management, carrying Sirion's access controls through to Legora; the integration rolls out in phases starting with select beta customers. Self-reported m:…9775
  • Sirion says it supports more than seven million contracts across over 100 languages. Self-reported m:…9775
  • EvenUp's Companion integrates within Microsoft Word and brings in Lexis+ with Protégé through an alliance with LexisNexis, grounding drafts in authoritative legal content without leaving the document. Self-reported m:…4578

Two bets on the same problem

Legora, which calls itself the agentic operating system for legal work, announced an integration ecosystem: more than 30 integrations across nine categories of legal technology — document management, enterprise search, data rooms, eDiscovery, ethical walls, time and billing, document automation, contracting, and productivity apps. The pitch: "In every case, the connected platform remains the system of record and the source of truth for permissions, and Legora is built to complement it, not duplicate it." m:…6847

The company quotes EY's legal operations lead saying teams can move "from finding documents to drafting and reviewing them without leaving the platform." Legora's CPO Bryan Tsao states the thesis plainly: "Every trip to another system eats into the time AI saves." Legora says it is used by more than 130,000 legal professionals at law firms and in-house teams. m:…6847

The same week, Legora announced a strategic partnership with Sirion, an AI-native contract lifecycle management platform that says it holds more than seven million contracts across 100-plus languages. The integration lets in-house teams pull commercial context — contracts, precedents, negotiated terms — from Sirion into Legora, and run Legora-powered legal research inside Sirion, with Sirion's access controls carried through. It rolls out in phases, beginning with select beta customers. m:…9775

Two product details show how deep the integration goes. Legora's "Skills" let legal teams encode their own standards and processes "so the Agent handles each step the way they would" — the platform learns the firm's playbook, not just the law. And work done in Legora can flow into time capture and billing, "giving lawyers more accurate time entries with less administrative effort." The AI that captures time accurately is the AI that gets adopted. m:…6847

The opposite direction: stay in Word

EvenUp, which sells AI to personal injury firms, is arguing the mirror image. Context switching, it says, means "Every time an attorney switches applications mid-case, something gets left behind: the detail they were checking, the thing that looked off, the note to come back to later." And: "A tool that requires a team to change how they work is a tool a team will quietly stop using." m:…4578

So EvenUp built Companion inside Microsoft Word — where, it notes, most AI-generated drafts actually get finalized — and allied with LexisNexis to bring Lexis+ with Protégé research into the drafting environment, with citations linked to underlying authority and Shepard's Signal indicators. The argument is that migration and retraining are the real costs: "the stretch where the firm runs two systems badly instead of one system well." m:…4578

What the race is really about

Both companies agree on the diagnosis and disagree on the prescription. Legora wants to be the new center — the agentic layer that absorbs everything else through integrations. EvenUp wants AI to dissolve into the tools lawyers already use. The common thread: nobody is competing on model quality anymore. The moat is workflow position — who owns the surface where legal work actually happens. m:…6847 m:…4578

Both also converge on permissions as the hard constraint. Legora keeps the connected platform as the system of record for permissions and ethical walls; the Sirion partnership carries access controls through automatically. In legal, the AI that can't respect the ethical wall doesn't get deployed, however good its drafting is. That makes integrations a compliance feature, not just a convenience one. m:…6847 m:…9775

What is still unresolved

  • How the Legora-Sirion beta performs with real matter data before broader rollout.
  • Whether Word-embedded AI can match the depth of purpose-built legal research platforms.
  • Which model wins in firms that use neither Legora's stack nor Word-centric workflows.
