## Key facts

- HP Inc. appointed Emma Walmsley as chief executive, effective January 4, 2027, with Bruce Broussard becoming chair of the board. [cites: 1793868879445614231]
- Walmsley's package includes a $1,450,000 base salary, a 200% target bonus, a $2,500,000 sign-on bonus and a $30,000,000 inducement equity award, the filing says. (self-reported) [cites: 1793868879445614231]
- MNTN named Tony Weisman president and chief executive, succeeding Mark Douglas, after reporting third-quarter revenue of $80.3 million, up 15% year over year. (self-reported) [cites: 1793827365906933322]
- CoreCivic sold four facilities for $2.2 billion in gross proceeds and reported a $1,770.7 million gain on the sale, as Lucibeth Mayberry took over as chief executive. (self-reported) [cites: 1793826578462760100]
- Owens Corning reported a $248 million third-quarter net loss after a $476 million impairment charge, and promoted Todd Fister to president and chief operating officer. (self-reported) [cites: 1793832835456147619]

## The biggest hire

HP Inc. has named Emma Walmsley as its next chief executive, effective January 4, 2027, closing a period under interim leadership. Bruce Broussard, the interim chief executive, steps down at the end of January 3, 2027, and becomes chair of the board the following day. The board also expanded from 12 seats to 13 to make room for Walmsley, according to the filing. [cites: 1793868879445614231]

The filing lays out what the board paid to land her. Walmsley gets a base salary of $1,450,000, a target bonus of 200% of salary, a one-time sign-on bonus of $2,500,000, and a one-time inducement equity award worth $30,000,000. Relocation benefits of up to $2,500,000 are included. Walmsley previously served as chief executive of GSK from April 2017 until December 2025, the filing says. [cites: 1793868879445614231]

The package is the week's clearest signal about what boards think a chief executive is worth when the hire comes from outside. HP is not promoting an insider and hoping for continuity. It is buying a record from another large company, and paying a premium to do it. [cites: 1793868879445614231]

## Changes tied to results

MNTN, a smaller advertising technology company, made its change for a different reason. The company named Tony Weisman as president and chief executive, succeeding Mark Douglas, alongside third-quarter results that showed revenue of $80.3 million, up 15% from a year earlier, and net income of $7.7 million, up from $6.4 million. Adjusted EBITDA rose 24% to $19.9 million. The company also updated its full-year guidance, putting revenue at $311 million to $314 million and adjusted EBITDA at $66 million to $68 million. [cites: 1793827365906933322]

Owens Corning paired its leadership changes with a difficult quarter. The company reported a net loss of $248 million after a $476 million non-cash impairment charge tied to its Doors business, on net sales of $2.489 billion. Todd Fister was promoted to president and chief operating officer, and Jonathan Collins, who joined in August 2026 as executive vice president and financial officer, takes a central role as the company guides fourth-quarter revenue of $2.0 billion to $2.2 billion and an enterprise adjusted EBITDA margin of about 10% to 12%. [cites: 1793832835456147619]

The contrast matters. MNTN is changing its chief executive while growing. Owens Corning is reshuffling its top team while writing down a business and warning that residential repair, remodelling and new construction activity will stay under pressure in the fourth quarter. One board wants sharper execution of a growing business. The other wants a team that can manage a shrinking one. [cites: 1793827365906933322, 1793832835456147619]

## A departure, a sale and a new boss

CoreCivic combined all three. Lucibeth Mayberry assumed the role of president and chief executive after Patrick Swindle stepped down for health reasons. The same filing reported third-quarter revenue of $744.1 million and net income of $1,344.1 million, lifted by a $1,770.7 million gain on the sale of four detention facilities for gross proceeds of $2.2 billion. The company repaid more than $700 million of debt, entered a $500 million accelerated share repurchase agreement, and the board expanded the repurchase authorisation by a further $500 million. Occupancy rose to 84.0% from 76.7% a year earlier. [cites: 1793826578462760100]

STAAR Surgical made the week's quietest set of changes. The company reported third-quarter net sales of $83.4 million and net income of $5.6 million, authorised a $50 million share repurchase programme, and appointed three senior executives: Ben Park as chief technology officer, David Bailey as chief commercial officer, and Andrew Pilon as vice president of business development. Net sales for the first nine months of 2026 were $270.5 million. [cites: 1793827112403072569]

## What the boards are buying

Taken together, the week says less about any single company than about how boards are staffing for the next stretch. HP is paying for outside experience. MNTN is paying for execution. CoreCivic is handing a transformed balance sheet to a new chief executive. Owens Corning and STAAR are rebuilding their benches while their markets stay difficult. The moves share one feature: none of them is a caretaker appointment. [cites: 1793868879445614231, 1793827365906933322, 1793826578462760100, 1793832835456147619, 1793827112403072569]

The dates to watch are set. Walmsley starts on January 4, 2027, and Broussard moves to the chair the same day. MNTN has put numbers on the rest of its year. CoreCivic has the cash from its sale and a new repurchase programme to deploy. Whether the new leaders change the results, or only the names on the filings, is the open question. [cites: 1793868879445614231, 1793827365906933322, 1793826578462760100]

## What is still unresolved

- Whether the performance goals for Walmsley's inducement equity awards, to be approved in January 2027, will be demanding or routine.
- How MNTN's new leadership will address the go-to-market execution problems behind its updated guidance.
- What CoreCivic does with the remaining proceeds from its $2.2 billion facility sale after repaying debt and starting buybacks.
