- Strata Critical Medical announced a $20 million share repurchase authorization, the company says. (self-reported) [cites: 1793711730500117487]

## The largest programme

Talen Energy's buyback is in a different league from the rest. The company says it announced a $1.5 billion accelerated share repurchase programme expected to be complete by the end of the first quarter of 2027, and upsized its total share repurchase programme to $3.0 billion through December 31, 2028. The company says it used $1.3 billion in net proceeds from a capacity monetization agreement, closed on October 1, 2026, to fund the accelerated programme. That agreement sold rights to about $1.5 billion in future PJM capacity cash flows, the company says. [cites: 1793714655820863601]

The company says it reported third-quarter GAAP net income attributable to stockholders of $138 million, adjusted EBITDA of $669 million and adjusted free cash flows of $433 million. The company says it introduced 2027 guidance of $2,500 million to $2,850 million in adjusted EBITDA and $1,500 million to $1,750 million in adjusted free cash flows, and held total available liquidity of about $1.6 billion at October 30, 2026. [cites: 1793714655820863601]

## Growth companies join in

Procore pairs its buyback with growth. The company says it reported third-quarter revenue of $402 million, up 19% year over year, with a non-GAAP operating margin of 23% and GAAP gross margin of 80%. The company says its board authorized a new $300 million stock repurchase programme on October 30, 2026, expiring on October 30, 2027. The company says it raised its full-year 2026 revenue outlook to $1,557 million to $1,559 million. [cites: 1793740298444959280]

The company says it acquired DroneDeploy to expand visual intelligence and AI capabilities, announced strategic collaborations with NVIDIA and IBM, and expects full-year 2027 non-GAAP operating margin to be 25%. [cites: 1793740298444959280]

Latham Group follows the same template at smaller scale. The company says it reported third-quarter net sales of $182.2 million, up 12.5% year over year, net income of $12.1 million, up 48.5%, and adjusted EBITDA of $45.3 million, up 18.1%. The company says its board approved a $100 million share buyback programme and that gross margin expanded by 130 basis points to 36.7%. [cites: 1793740766394438828]

The company says it reaffirmed its full-year 2026 guidance for net sales growth of 11.7% and adjusted EBITDA growth of 15.2% at the midpoints, and appointed Todd Antonelli as chief commercial officer. The company says third-quarter net income included a one-time loss on extinguishment and modification of debt of $5.0 million, and selling, general and administrative expenses rose 25.5% to $35.9 million. The buyback sits alongside rising earnings, which is the easier case to make. [cites: 1793740766394438828]

## Buybacks where earnings fell

Primoris is the counter-example. The company says it reported third-quarter revenue of $2.0 billion, down 10.4% from the third quarter of 2025, net income of $51.3 million, down $43.3 million, and adjusted EBITDA of $134.4 million, down 20.3%. The company says it announced a share purchase authorization of up to $250 million of common shares. Returning cash while earnings fall is a harder signal to read: it can mean the board sees value, or that it has few better uses for the money. [cites: 1793743651656600136]

The company says it achieved a record total backlog of $14.1 billion, including $8.5 billion in master service agreement backlog, and updated full-year 2026 guidance to net income of $65.2 million to $73.2 million and adjusted EBITDA of $290.0 million to $310.0 million. The company says management expects a return to growth in 2027 supported by record backlog and improved project execution. The backlog gives the buyback a story: cash returned now, growth expected later. [cites: 1793743651656600136]

DuPont sits between the two camps. The company says it reported third-quarter net sales of $1.868 billion, up 4% from a year earlier, and operating EBITDA of $469 million, up 8%. The company says it completed $250 million in accelerated share repurchases and $100 million in open market repurchases during the quarter, and announced an intent to repurchase $250 million of shares in the fourth quarter of 2026. [cites: 1793711336749857391]

The company says it raised its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to $7.47 to $7.52 and expects full-year operating EBITDA of about $1.785 billion. The company says GAAP EPS from continuing operations was $1.24 and adjusted EPS was $2.09. DuPont is buying back while raising guidance, which puts it with Procore and Latham rather than Primoris. [cites: 1793711336749857391]

Strata Critical Medical is the smallest programme in the group. The company says it reported third-quarter total revenue of $74.1 million, adjusted EBITDA of $9.6 million, a net loss from continuing operations of $7.6 million and free cash flow of $8.6 million. The company says it announced a $20 million share repurchase authorization, and clinical revenue rose 20.3% sequentially. [cites: 1793711730500117487]

## What the wave suggests

This suggests buybacks have become the default way for these companies to signal confidence, whatever the quarter looked like. Programmes range from $20 million to $3.0 billion, and they appear alongside rising guidance, falling earnings and record backlogs alike. When every kind of quarter produces a buyback, the announcement alone tells a reader less than the funding behind it. [cites: 1793714655820863601, 1793740298444959280, 1793711730500117487]

The useful distinction is between buybacks funded by something concrete and buybacks funded by hope. Talen's is tied to a closed monetization, DuPont's to executed repurchases and raised guidance, and Primoris's to a record backlog that has not yet turned into growth. [cites: 1793714655820863601, 1793743651656600136]

## What is still unresolved

- How much of each announced authorization will actually be executed, and over what timetable.
- Whether Primoris's record backlog converts into the return to growth in 2027 that management expects.
- Whether Talen completes its $1.5 billion accelerated programme by the end of the first quarter of 2027.

## Decision card

- **Useful for:** Bankers tracking capital return plans across sectors; Investors comparing buyback scale with operating performance
- **Not for:** Anyone looking for a recommendation on any named stock; Readers who need the timing or execution price of any repurchase programme
- **Compare against:** Each company's buyback size against its cash flow and debt position; Whether buybacks coincide with rising or falling earnings
