Carolina's Brind'Amour set the franchise wins record, Boston won its fifth straight, and the Islanders got milestone nights from Sorokin and Schaefer.* Confirmed · 4 sources · Sports · Published 2026-10-19 01:03 UTC ## Key facts - The Panthers are the first team in NHL history to record a natural hat trick in three straight games, capped by Carter Verhaeghe's natural hat trick in the 8-3 win over the Kraken. (self-reported) [cites: 1792293958539079657] - Brind'Amour earned his 385th regular-season win as Carolina's head coach, passing Paul Maurice's 384 for the franchise record; he reached it in 625 games. (self-reported) [cites: 1792347220293623434] - The Bruins beat the Kings 4-1 on Saturday night for their fifth straight win; David Pastrnak has nine points in his last five games. [cites: 1792305554425532050] - Ilya Sorokin earned his 158th win, passing Chico Resch for second place on the Islanders' all-time list. (self-reported) [cites: 1792335618111001944] - Matthew Schaefer became the second-youngest defenseman in NHL history to reach 250 career shots on goal. (self-reported) [cites: 1792335618111001944] ## The Panthers' scoring streak, now league history The Florida Panthers beat the Seattle Kraken 8-3, with Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Bennett each recording a hat trick, the team's recap reports. Verhaeghe's was a natural hat trick, and it made the Panthers the first team in NHL history to record a natural hat trick in three straight games. Bennett opened the scoring just 65 seconds into the game. [cites: 1792293958539079657] The streak did not start Saturday. The recap notes Brady Tkachuk recorded two hat tricks in the games before this one. Natural hat tricks in three straight games, coming from a small set of skaters, suggests sustained offensive pressure rather than a one-night outlier, though the recap does not break down how the goals were created. [cites: 1792293958539079657] ## Brind'Amour takes the franchise record Brind'Amour earned his 385th regular-season win as Carolina's head coach, passing Paul Maurice's 384 for the most in franchise history, the Hurricanes' recap reports. He reached the milestone in only 625 games. The team says he holds the NHL records for the fewest games to 300 wins (488) and the most wins through 500 games (307) and through 600 games (367). [Get a key](https://synorb.com/connect) The playoff line is the sharper statement. Brind'Amour has led Carolina to the playoffs in each of his first eight seasons, winning at least one series in all eight, the recap notes, making him the first coach in league history to win a series in each of his first eight seasons. He already held the franchise record with 63 postseason wins. Since he took over ahead of the 2018-19 season, the Canes are 385-183-57, with a .662 points percentage that ranks second in the NHL, a league-best 2.65 goals allowed per game, and an 84.4% penalty kill that ranks first. He won the Jack Adams Award in 2020-21. [cites: 1792347220293623434] ## Boston's fifth straight The Bruins beat the Kings 4-1 on Saturday night, extending their win streak to five games, the team's recap reports. The Kings scored first, 31 seconds into the game, before Boston took over. David Pastrnak scored his fourth goal of the season and has nine points in his last five games. [cites: 1792305554425532050] The roster picture is shifting around the streak. Sean Kuraly played his first game since October 3, while Pavel Zacha sat out with an upper-body injury and is day-to-day, with Fraser Minten moving to first-line pivot in his absence. Pastrnak said the group is a little more mature than last year's team, per the recap. [cites: 1792305554425532050] ## Sorokin and Schaefer hit club milestones The Islanders beat the Maple Leafs 4-1, the team's recap reports. Ilya Sorokin earned his 158th win, passing Chico Resch for second place on the club's all-time list. The Islanders are 4-0-1 this season when scoring first. [cites: 1792335618111001944] Defenseman Matthew Schaefer became the second-youngest defenseman in NHL history to reach 250 career shots on goal, per the recap. The win came at a cost: Cal Ritchie and Matias Maccelli both left in the first period with lower-body injuries and did not return. [cites: 1792335618111001944] For a professional reader, the through line is that most of the weekend's stories are organizational achievements, a coaching record, milestone marks for a goaltender and a young defenseman, and a scoring streak built over a week, rather than single-game upsets. [cites: 1792293958539079657] ## What is still unresolved - Timelines for the injuries to Cal Ritchie, Matias Maccelli, and Pavel Zacha are not given in the recaps. - Whether the Panthers' scoring concentration continues is not addressed; the recap gives no forward-looking detail. - The Bruins' recap gives no expected return date for Zacha beyond day-to-day. ## Decision card - **Useful for:** Team staff and analysts benchmarking coaching tenure and scoring concentration; Editorial teams planning milestone coverage around franchise records - **Not for:** Betting or fantasy lineup decisions - **Compare against:** Season-to-date defensive and special-teams baselines across the league ## Provenance ledger | Manifest id | Title | Source | Claims used | Published | |---|---|---|---|---| | `1792293958539079657` | RECAP: Panthers make history in win over Kraken | [nhl-news-panthers](https://nhl.com/panthers/news/recap-panthers-make-history-in-win-over-kraken) | 1792294403717802836, 1792294403719188977, 1792294403699072657, 1792294403705762373, 1792294403716435053, 1792294403723882324, 1792294403720942959 | 10-18 00:00 | | `1792347220293623434` | Brind'Amour Becomes Winningest Head Coach In Franchise History | [nhl-news-hurricanes](https://nhl.com/hurricanes/news/brind-amour-becomes-winningest-head-coach-in-franchise-history) | 1792347522951056735, 1792347522954339577, 1792347522956572700, 1792347522965933701, 1792347522966504229, 1792347522967267595, 1792347522972458455, 1792347522973936425, 1792347522957540470, 1792347522959819012, 1792347522960255444, 1792347522962158825, 1792347522963121234, 1792347522974145728 | 10-18 00:00 | | `1792305554425532050` | Bruins Beat Kings 4-1, Sweep California Road Trip | [nhl-news-bruins](https://nhl.com/bruins/news/bruins-beat-kings-4-1-sweep-california-road-trip) | 1792306231669689971, 1792306231672953258, 1792306231677115602, 1792306231674915307, 1792306231675941543, 1792306231682793299, 1792306231679223908, 1792306231680741786, 1792306231683874776 | 10-18 00:00 | | `1792335618111001944` | The Skinny: Islanders 4, Maple Leafs 1 | [nhl-news-islanders](https://nhl.com/islanders/news/the-skinny-islanders-4-maple-leafs-1-oct-17-2026) | 1792336061470441143, 1792336061473917282, 1792336061468310948, 1792336061475508730, 1792336061472086489 | 10-18 00:00 | ## Run these Manifests yourself Every Manifest cited here can be read in full with your own Synorb Key.
